Created by Dr Pimsleur this Japanese learning course has some good points and some obvious weaknesses and I will briefly outline them for you here in this Pimsleur Japanese Review.

First the course comes in CD or casettes, which to be honest in this day and age I think is a little behind the times and I think is the reason why this course is so much more expensive that other Japanese language courses, because you have to pay for shipping!

None the less each CD/casette contains 1.5 hrs of quality conversational audio with native Japanese speakers and a tutor to help you learn in the context of a real japanese conversation.

Dr Pimsleur's method basically revolves around encouraging the students to participate from the word go, and focusses teaching people by providing relevant authentic Japanese conversational examples rather than getting the student to learn mind numbing vocabulary and grammar.

Pimsleur Japanese plays on the use of repitition by introducing something new, getting the student to re-use what they learned, hours, days and weeks later to consolidate it into their long term memory.

There are mulitple levels that one must progress through in order to become proficient in Japanese using the Pimsleur method.

However I am not going to hide the fact that cost of each level is rather high.
By the time you finish the complete course you are paying something like $500.

The downside of the Pimsleur Japanese course is that becuase there is a lack of focus on vocabulary you find that you will also need to purchase an additional Japanese English dictionary to help you learn more words.

In my opinion for what you get in this Japanese language course, although good I don't think it is worth paying that much for especially when there is so many other newer Japanese language courses available online these days.

Rocket Japanese is downloadable so you can listen to the lessons immediately after buying and don't get stung with shipping costs!! I think that's why they slash the price so much.
