Japanese Lessons

Another fun way
to improve your listening skills is to listen to Japanese
online radio. You can listen to music and commentary in
Japanese and you'll find once you have started learning the
basics of the Japanese language you will start to recognise
words in songs. Do a simple Google search for 'Japanese
Online Radio'
Another cool way to add to your
Japanese lessons is
to watch Japanese DVD's with English sub-titles. However
once again unless you have a basic understanding of the
Japanese language this approach can be really hard work.
However you can easily find some good ones on Ebay at a
cheap price too.

If you want some advice on some good ones to
look for, Director Hayao
Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" and "Princess
Mononoke" or Director Akira
Kurosawa's "Throne of Blood", "Seven Samurai"
and "Dreams", you can read the English subtitles to help
you learn. This is a fun way to mix up your learning if you
have a course you are doing at the same time.
Once you know the basics of the Japanese
language you can also start listening to Japanese music and
reading some simple magazines or comic books. There are
some really cool comics books called Japanese Manga which
you can easily buy.
By doing this you will learn quickly and find
the variety makes learning more enjoyable, and as many
linguist studies have proven you are more likely to stick
with a language if you use a variety of resources.
Another great way to practice your Japanese
listening skills is to watch Japanese Dramas. You can go to
You Tube and watch some for free and there are some great
ones. The language is common Japanese that is spoken today
and is a fun way to mix up your learning. Some Japanese
Dramas are: Anego, Gokusen, Densha Otoko, Dragon
Zakura and Hataraki Man.
Ok so you may think this is kind of weird and
before you jump to a conclusion I am not meaning joining a
dating site or walking the streets looking for Japanese
people. What I am referring to is online World Friends
sites that can connect you up with people in other
countries.
The idea is to build friendships with other
cultures so that you can practice the other persons
language, via email, live chat, writing letters or the
phone if you feel comfortable.
This is a great thing to do with Japanese
people and if you are lucky you can even go and visit them
in Japan and have a local friend when you get there, or
vice versa if you invite them to visit you.
You can also buy a Japanese language learning
book from your local bookstore, order one online or even
borrow one from the library if you're lucky. They are
priced rather reasonably, especially if you get a second
hand copy. I personally find this method a little
boring.
If you do get a good quality book it can be a
great way to learn Japanese, as you can refer back to the
book anytime and take it with you where ever you go. Ebay
and Amazon are the best places to go if you want bargains
books for learning Japanese.
However the disadvantage is that you will only
be learning through reading and this is limiting as your
pronunciation can suffer without audio of a native speaker
to listen to. Plus it's harder to fit a lot of content into
a book and it's slow and a somewhat boring way of learning
if you ask me because you are not stimulated through
hearing or interacting.
However one thing I would ad is that there are
some fun Japanese comics called Manga that can be a good
way to practice what you have learned. Tezuka productions
do the best Manga and a cool series is the 'Black Jack'
series.
Ok that's it from me, and don't forget to sign
